Character Name: Lindsey McDonald
Series: Angel
Age: 30
From When?: The series finale right after being killed by Lorne.
Inmate/Warden: Lindsey is an Inmate. While he wants to be a hero by this point, he's ultimately too bitter. He can set that aside for a major crisis but he will come back to it after. He also tends to be his own worst enemy. While he does have lines he will not cross, he is extremely morally compromised. Working with a Warden could help him work through his bitterness and prejudices and learn to set higher moral standards for himself.
Abilities/Powers: Magic specifically telekinesis and transmographication but he's also familiar with Enochian runes and various spells and rituals. Also sword fighting. As an Inmate, he will keep his knowledge and his skills but the telekinesis and transmographication will be nixed.
Personality: Lindsey is a man with a lot of layers and masks. He'd sooner trust someone with his life than his heart. Getting an honest reaction from him is very rare and he'll most likely blow it off afterward and try to make it look like another one of his masks. The last thing he wants is for someone else to know his motivations. He acts more self-centered than he really is. Even when he does something because he's trying to do the right thing for once, he keeps up a pretense of doing it for the payout. In his mind, someone else knowing his true motives and feelings gives them the power to truly destroy him.
He's a man with a lot to prove, both to himself and to the world. He needs to know that he has what it takes. He studied hard and earned his way into a restigious college and law school despite growing up dirt poor and homeless. Once there, he caught the attention of the man who would later become his boss and mentor and gained a full ride with the promise of a job at the most well known and expensive law firm in the world. In his mind, he'd earned that and had to continue to live up to that. He worked his way up from the mail room to become the youngest junior partner and then co-vice president of his department his firm had ever seen. He had a lot to be proud of and he knew it. Even when he walked away, that accomplishment gave him the confidence and assurance that he can succeed at life. In his mind, it also proved to the world that he was more than just another homeless kid with a deadbeat dad, that he had value.
One hard line he does have is children. He will not harm children or stand by and let someone else harm them. The memory of his dead siblings has kept him from ever crossing that line. He will defend them even at the risk of his own life. The only time he ever admitted to a motive beyond his work or saving his own neck was when he asked Angel to help him save a group of children his firm planned to kill.
He will not let anyone step on him or take advantage of him, even if it kills him. He is determined to be the one in control of his life. For most of his childhood, he lived in a world that was beyond his control. It taught him to expect other people to take what they could from him and that his very life depended on staying in control. Working for Wolfram and Hart only confirmed this in his mind. Along with this, he almost never gives second chances. Let him down and he will be wary around you for a long, long time. Betray him and he will never trust you again.
Although he is manipulative and often underhanded, he is surprisingly honorable. While he did run a long con on Angel, when he tried to kill Angel, it was straight forward. There was no pretense of it being anything other than an attempt to kill his rival. When Wolfram and Hart brought Darla back to life to use her against Angel, he was the only one to see her as a person, to genuinely care about her as more than a tool. When he realized she was terminally ill and that Angel would never turn her, he arranged for another of her bloodline to come and turn her, not realizing that she had finally come to value her humanity and was willing to die as long as it meant keeping her soul. Even after she and another vampire had massacred his department, he took her in after Angel has set her on fire, nursing her back to health, buying blood to feed her, hiding her from his bosses who would happily have killed him if they knew, and attacking Angel on her behalf.
When his defenses are stripped away, he's still the little boy who watched his father smile as they lost their home and his two siblings die of the flu. He hides the hurt, the grief, and the compassion behind layers of arrogance and anger. He still feels them until he becomes depressed enough to grow numb for a while. The only time he lets anyone see his true self is when he sings and plays his guitar.
Barge Reactions: Lindsey was a lawyer for a demonic law firm for years. He's used to being around nonhumans. More than that, he's been friends with them and fallen in love with them. Since he sold his soul to Wolfram and Hart, he will initially assume that he's in a hell dimension. This will make him reluctant to trust and interact with the other people on the Barge at first. Even once he gets past that, he will be skeptical about this whole redemption thing because since when is hell about redemption. Once he starts to adjust, he will probably make friends easily although that will be mostly superficial. He will be able to take floods in stride. Breaches will be more troublesome for him as he has already had one very bad experience with his memory and identity being altered. These may very well cause him to have some relapses.

Sample Journal Entry: Hello? [The voice is pseudo-confident and professional. The man's appearance tells another story. His hair curls off the back of his neck and his plaid shirt has two bloodstained holes. In short, he looks like a cowboy who ended up on the wrong side of a shoot out.] This is Lindsey McDonald. Could someone tell me which dimension this is? [He knows it's not another holding dimension. He died. Which means he should be in one of Wolfram and Hart's many hell dimensions.] Also, if someone could tell me where the offices are and who my supervisor is, I'd really appreciate it. Or am I waiting for this dimension's version of the Wrath? In which case, I got to say thanks for the guitar for between sessions.
Sample RP: He gasps and opens his eyes, feeling at his chest. Breathing. He's breathing. He hadn't expected that. Of course, he hadn't exactly expected to remember his real life, either. He's not sure why, now that he thinks about it. It would be easier to use him in the hell offices with his memory intact. He wouldn't be a whole lot of use if he had to relearn everything. The bullet holes are still there but they're only as deep as if they weren't meant to kill, shot from farther away and went through someone else to slow them down before they got to him. They still hurt like hell and they're starting to bleed.
He looks around the room. It looks just like his cell back at the LA office. That couldn't be less surprising. All the offices on earth look the same. It's little surprise that the hell offices do, too. What does surprise him is the guitar in the corner. He almost goes over to play it but he doesn't want to get his blood on it even if he may never get the chance to play again.
He forces himself to his feet, wincing briefly as the motion pulls on the wounds in his chest. He'd better get that taken care of. The Senior Partners won't want his blood all over any paperwork. He walks slowly to the door. It's when he opens his door that he finds himself truly surprised. To start with, the door actually opens. Then, the hallway that meets eyes isn't anything like the hallway at the LA office. If he it weren't for waking up in his cell, he'd think he was in a hotel. Surely, there has to be some kind of first aid kit around here. He steps out of his cell. He just has to find it.
